Extra easy went down smooth!

Although not the incredibly overcrowded knock-down of the first event, this past weekend's extra Easy went pretty great, slow starting crowd-wise, but after midnight it had become a nice turnout. I had a terrific surprise cake brought by my notoriously mysterious friend Michael Cooper, featuring a Wonder Woman theme. The free pizza and pool offered by the establishment is always a welcome bonus, and a good time was had throughout the night. Look for the updated party playlist coming up. Our next event is on April 13th. Did you all know I love cake?

EXTRA EASY FOR EASTER!!!!

Extra Easy For Easter:
As you know Easy occurs the second Sunday of every month, we have an extra Sunday this March so come on down Easter for Extra Easy! Drop by for a visit as Rob Rives and K-tel Jenkins deliver the house music for you. Wear cute underwear, somebody might be seeing you in it this Sunday March 23th at 10 pm.

The last party was such an unpredicted success, we're flush wondering what kind of turnout this next one will bring, and it'll act as a warm-up for Rob who is preforming at his first WMC event, and It'll also double as a b-day celebration for me… don't worry, I already got myself something [a 52" LCD TV dammit!!]

Good Times!

Yes, fun was had at our delightful "soft launch" opening.  Opening night jitters quickly disappeared as bartenders Dave and Patrick made us feel right at home and Kenny began hitting them with some tasty mid-tempo tunes from the compu-tah.  We took turns; each of us spinning for about an hour until the last half hour when I asked Kenny to take over so I could get my drink on.  The delicious crowd seemed to really enjoy the tunes and by the end of the night, clothes were coming off.  I personally declined an excited reveler's exhortations to remove my own clothing as my Jaegermeister had yet to kick in, maybe next time.  Celebrity siting: Justin Bond of Kiki and Herb fame stopped by with a handsome entourage to jack up the chic factor.  A special thanks to all our pals who stopped by.  Those of you who missed it, you can redeem yourself by stopping by on Sunday March 23rd after you ditch your family and barf up all those Cadbury eggs.

For those trainspotters out there, sorry for the delay in getting the playlist up, it should happen over the weekend.  I had to do a little research on two of the tracks I played as I stole them from Steve Travolta's virtual record bag and had no real idea what I was playing.  Is that rock and roll or what?

The very first party…

Went incredibly well, I mustered all the mailing list contacts we still had, but I could't have predicted that we'd have such a terrific crowd for our soft-launch. The party ran from 10-straight onto 4am, and it was pretty packed until about 2, and a healthy crowd stayed through till the end. The playlist is forthcoming, as soon as we sort out label specific info, since we want to be as complete about it as possible. More details on the exciting first night from my co-promoter are to come.

Wow, it's finally happened; I'm blogging.  Let's hope I don't end up like Theresa Duncan...
Let's get right to it.  To get things off to a fun start, I've included a link to a remix I did of a track by Black Mamba called "Vicious".  Originally a Larry Levan production, the 12" thoughtfully included an accapella which I found irresistible.
Listen, enjoy, share with your friends...

A few new records up for judgement in this installment of what Kenny and I are calling "The Gavel".
First up: Hercules and Love Affair/Hercules and Love Affair.  Just got a copy of this yesterday and it's cute.  It's nice to hear Antony in Johnson-less mode and having some fun on the dance-floor.  The album is retro-house/disco with a few dark edges to cut the cheese factor and generally works.  "Iris" could almost be a mid 80's Chris and Cosey track with its "artless" vocal.  Charming though.   This record is already getting big time buzz so I'm sure we'll be sick of it by summer, but hey that's ages from now.  Two additional non-album cuts "Roar" and "Classique #2" are also highly recommended.  The Frankie Knuckles mix of "Blind" is quite fabulous and I'll definitely be playing this one on Sunday, so bring your own gavels and judge for yourself.

I also bought (yes BOUGHT! how quaint!) the MGMT album "Oracular Spectacular" which turned out to be a hit or miss affair.  Three great tracks: "Time To Pretend", "Kids", and "Electric Feel"; but the rest of the album doesn't have the impact of these awesome techno-rock anthems.  I'm seeing a singles band here.

Singles:  DONS and DBN featuring Kadoc "The Nighttrain" is terrific.  I got four mixes but haven't even listened to anything but the On Board mix and the Jerry Ropero mix since they are so fierce.  Sascha Funke's new single "Double Checked" is terrifically eerie, I'm digging the original mix.  Gotta pick up a copy of his "Mango" album.  Also into a track by Mock and Toof called "Beat Up" which has a funky/spacey vibe complete with psychedelic organs.  Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

We'll post the playlist after Sunday night for those of you interested.  See you at Nowhere...
